Expanding cultural understanding of the Horror Genre
A global organization dedicated to the academic study, industry growth, and fan appreciation of the horror genre.
About the Society
The American Horror Society was founded to serve as a vital hub for academics, industry professionals, and fans to gather and celebrate the horror genre. Our focus is on expanding and deepening the cultural understanding of horror, recognizing its power as a tool for exploring human fears, anxieties, and societal issues.
Our Mission
To provide a platform for serious discourse, critical analysis, and collaborative projects that elevate the perception of horror beyond simple entertainment. We believe the genre is a powerful tool for exploring human fears, anxieties, and societal issues.
Our Vision
To become the leading global authority on the horror genre, fostering a dynamic and inclusive community that inspires a new generation of scholars, artists, and fans to explore its profound cultural and psychological depths.
Founding President: Jimmy Blakemore
Jimmy Blakemore is the visionary behind The American Horror Society. He has studied horror formally as a part of his Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English, and his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. He is also a professional author of horror, suspense, and psychological fiction.
As the Founder and Editorial Director of Dark Harbor Magazine, Jimmy is currently applying to PhD programs in English, with a focus on horror studies. His passion for the genre's rich history and cultural impact serves as the guiding force for the society's mission to deepen our collective understanding of horror.
